KABULONGOU EARTH 4D3N - RM2,217/PAX

Day 1

  • Transportation from Kota Kinabalu (KK) to Keningau will be via buses, and Agents transports. Self-drive guests will be directed from Kota Kinabalu to the MunorAulai Guesthouse at the Romol Village, Sapulut,

Borneo Outback Tours will pick up guests from Keningau to the MunorAulai Guesthouse, or the Saupi hanging bridge parking area. 

  • Hike for about 40 minutes to the Kabulongou Waterfall Camp,
  • Lunch is served upon arrival and checking in into the huts provided with tent, sleeping mat, pillows and sleeping bags,
  • Briefing on the Community based Kabulongou Earth development to the guests on the vision, missions and the 5 year goals of the rehabilitation activities to reinstate the logged over and denuded forest area,  
  • Relax at the waterfall pool at the second level and purchase some fish feed to feed the fish in the first level pool. Guests, if they wish, can snorkel in the first level pool to watch the “pelian” fish (Tor tambroides) a very high value fish,
  • Dinner at  7.00 p.m.,
  • Night at the Kabulongou Waterfall Huts serenaded by the waterfall and nature sounds as well as waking up to the chipping of birds and morning sounds of the insects in the surrounding forest.

Day 2

  • Breakfast at 7.00 a.m.,
  • Participate in the Rehabilitation activities of the Kabulongou Earth area. - Agroecology - planting of at least 1 well selected high value fruit seedling in the forest & Silviculture - to regenerate the logged over forest by planting selected endemic plant seedlings into the forest
  • Two hour guided trekking in one of the trails developed by the villagers in the forest area
  • Lunch at 12:30 p.m.

Three alternative activities guests can choose from for the evening:

1. Relax at the waterfalls and feed the fish at the level 1 pool,
2. Evening trekking for two hours on another trails,
3. Fishing with lines and hocks and feeding the fish at the designated feeding pool in the Pampangon river.

Only the Kabulongou Earth guests are allowed to fish as recreations. Fish caught is weighed and paid for by the guests to the river conservation fund

  • Dinner at 7:00 a.m.,
  • Night at the Kabulongou Waterfall Huts in the camp.

Day 3

  • Breakfast at 7:00 a.m.,
  • Leave for the Salung Jetty for the boat ride to the Kalimantan border. This is the last frontier of the Murut Country with traditional long houses in various villages located along both sides of the Logongon river with farms practising slash and burn methods of farming. Enjoy the nature and shootings of rapids heading downstream to the Kalimantan border and boatman negotiating rapids and boulders on the return journey to the Salung Jetty,
  • Enjoy the picnic lunch which is served a suitable river bank depending on the river condition (level),
  • Head back to the MunorAulai Guesthouse. Coffee and tea is served after check in at the guesthouse,
  • Short briefing is given prior to the casual walk to the MunorAulai Integrated Farm developed based on the Agroecology concept. The small land area utilization is optimized to generate higher net returns in a sustainable manner without affecting adversely the eco-system and biodiversity of the farm,
  • Dinner at 7:00 p.m.,
  • Experiencing the Murut Cultural activities at 8:00 p.m. consisting of rice wine or tapioca wine tasting and 5 traditional dances by the children of the Romol Village, 
  • Night at the MunorAulai Guesthouse while enjoying the symphony of insect animal (fauna) sounds from the farm.

Day 4

  • Breakfast at 7:00 a.m.
  • Depart for Keningau - Kota Kinabalu.
